What is Psychosynthesis?

Psychosynthesis is the foundation of the work I do here at Liberated Essence. Informed by this Transpersonal (aka spiritual) Psychology, I also draw on personal mysticism and ritual, intuitive somatics, and my background in Vitalist Herbalism, to truly create a whole-system approach that is informed by the intelligence of nature, body, psyche and soul.

Psychosynthesis is a branch of Psychology that brings science to the soul!

Founded in the early 1900's by Italian Psychiatrist, Dr. Roberto Assagioli, Psychosynthesis goes far beyond the traditional psychoanalysis that is used in mainstream talk therapy.

Like traditional psychoanalysis, this work includes what Assagioli called the "basement of the psyche", utilizing tools to integrate past wounding, fragmentation and trauma. Psychosynthesis ALSO includes what Assagioli called "the terrace above the basement, where we may gaze at the heavens and bathe in the sun". Here he is referring to the spiritual dimension, the territory of the the soul, or the realm of our essential nature!

The limitation of psychoanalysis' fixation on working with the basement of the psyche, is that it tends to view the human system as something needing to be pathologized.

The gift of Psychosynthesis, is that we get to move from, "What’s wrong with me?" to instead consider, "What’s possible for me? What’s emerging for me? How am I growing through this experience?"

As a transpersonal psychology, Psychosynthesis covers a holistic, expansive, and comprehensive range of the human experience, allowing us to access far more of ourselves than we might alone.

This framework brings a sense of wholeness to the field of Psychology. It is a living, breathing, method of psychological development and self-realization, that unites the fields of science and spirituality.
